Why it matters

Real moments children face, taught calmly

Young children meet these moments in everyday life, often when no grown-up is standing next to them. Safety Stars gives them simple words to remember and one clear thing to do, without frightening them. The first lesson gives every child a Safety Hand of trusted grown-ups to tell.

  • A stranger offers food

Children learn No, Go, Tell: say “No, thank you”, go to a safe place, and tell a trusted grown-up.

  • Someone unknown at the school gate

Children learn never to go with anyone without checking, to go to the teacher or school guard, and to use a family code word.

  • A secret that feels wrong

Children learn the difference between a happy surprise and a secret that worries them, and that telling is always right.

  • Phone calls and prize messages

Children learn that an OTP is like a house key, never to share it, and to ask a grown-up before clicking prize links.

Remember the rule

  1. Lesson 1: Tell a trusted grown-up!
  2. Lesson 2: Share secrets that worry you!
  3. Lesson 3: No, Go, Tell!
  4. Lesson 4: Never go without checking!
  5. Lesson 5: Never share an OTP!

Teacher notes

Talk about each lesson in class

Every question and activity comes straight from what the video teaches, so children hear the same simple words again.

Lesson 1 My Trusted Grown-ups

Ask the class

  1. 1 Who are the five trusted grown-ups on your Safety Hand?
  2. 2 If the first grown-up you tell is busy, what do you do?
  3. 3 Which number can you call for help, any time?

Quick activity

Safety Hand: each child traces their hand on paper and writes or draws one trusted grown-up on each finger, like Mummy, Papa, Dadi, the class teacher, Mama or Chachi. Then say the Childline number together: 1, 0, 9, 8.

Lesson 2 Surprise or Secret?

Ask the class

  1. 1 How is a surprise different from a secret?
  2. 2 The big boy said, “Don’t tell your Mummy or Papa.” How did that make Arjun feel?
  3. 3 If someone asks you to keep a secret from your parents, who will you tell?

Quick activity

Surprise or tell? Read out three examples from the video: a cake hidden for Mummy’s birthday party, a gift hidden for the teacher’s birthday, and “This is our secret, don’t tell your parents.” Children clap for a surprise and raise a hand for “tell a grown-up”.

Lesson 3 No, Go, Tell!

Ask the class

  1. 1 Someone you don’t know offers you food or a drink. What are the three words to remember?
  2. 2 Where are the safe places Riya can go?
  3. 3 What if the person knows your name, or says he is Papa’s friend?

Quick activity

Say it and do it: the class says “No!” with a hand held up, takes two steps for “Go!”, and points to the teacher for “Tell!”. Then the teacher holds up a pretend chocolate and the whole class answers together: No, Go, Tell!

Lesson 4 Safe at the School Gate

Ask the class

  1. 1 The man at the gate knew Arjun’s name. Should Arjun go with him? Why not?
  2. 2 If someone you don’t know comes to pick you up, who do you go to at school?
  3. 3 What is a family code word, and who do you make it with?

Quick activity

Gate practice: one child plays the visitor at the classroom door and says, “Your Papa sent me!” Another child plays Arjun, says “No”, and walks to the teacher: “Ma’am, someone says Papa sent him.” The teacher pretends to phone Papa to check. Swap roles and repeat.

Lesson 5 Never Share an OTP!

Ask the class

  1. 1 What does OTP mean, and why is it like a house key?
  2. 2 A man on the phone says he is from the bank and is in a hurry. What should Riya do?
  3. 3 A message says, “You won a gift! Click here.” What do you do?

Quick activity

Key game: hold up a paper key with a four-digit number on it, like 4827. Ask, “Who can we tell this number to?” The class answers together: “Nobody! Give the phone to Mummy or Papa.”

For parents

Keep the lessons going at home

A few minutes at home help the rules stick. Watch the videos together, then try these:

  • Make a family code word

Choose a code word together. Anyone you send to pick up your child must know it.

  • The OTP rule

If your child uses your phone, remind them: never tell an OTP to anyone, cut the call and bring the phone to you. Ask before clicking any prize link.

  • Draw the Safety Hand

Trace your child’s hand and write one trusted grown-up on each finger. If one is busy, your child tells the next.

  • Childline 1098

Help your child remember 1, 0, 9, 8. Childline is free help, any time.

Safe by design

The name typed for a certificate is used only to make the certificate on this device. It is never sent to us. We count, without any name, only that a certificate was made.

  • Simple, calm language

No. The lessons, quizzes and certificates are free for every school, teacher and parent.
Do children or teachers need to log in?
No. There is no login and no sign-up. Open the page and press play.

English, and Hinglish (Hindi with everyday English words). The English page plays the English videos, and the Hindi page plays the Hinglish videos.

Yes. Every video is under two minutes, and the quiz works on a smartboard, laptop or phone. A Listen button can read each question aloud.
