Frequently asked questions

Short, plain-English answers about getting started, AI, features and privacy. Can't find yours? Ask us directly.

Getting started

Is SchoolTrendz free?
Yes — free for every school, no card needed. Register your school in about a minute.
How long does it take to register a school?
About a minute. You enter your school's name, contact details and an admin login, and your school, its current academic year and the admin account are created straight away — you're signed in immediately.
Can we run more than one school on the platform?
Yes. SchoolTrendz can run many schools on one platform, each with its own separated records. Combined reporting across schools is on our roadmap. Read more for school groups.

Features

Does every school get its own website?
Yes, included for every school: a public site with news, notices, events, a photo gallery, staff pages and an admission enquiry form, managed from inside SchoolTrendz. See the school website.
What can SchoolTrendz AI do?
It answers questions in plain language across attendance, exams, fees, academics, notices, library and transport — using the same permission checks a signed-in user has, so a parent only ever gets answers about their own children. It's read-only: it never changes data, and every lookup is logged. It's early access, powered by Anthropic's Claude. See it in action.
What reports can we export, and in what format?
22 built-in reports covering fees, attendance, exams, payroll, library and more, each exportable as CSV or PDF, or printed directly, with a header naming the school, the filters used and who generated it. See reporting.
How does year-end promotion work?
A results-aware promotion screen lets you promote, detain, or move each student to a new section, carry unpaid fees forward without double-billing, then close the academic year. Closed years stay read-only, and you can still browse them later.
Which languages is SchoolTrendz available in?
33 interface languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Punjabi, Urdu, Arabic and Persian, with full right-to-left layout for Arabic, Urdu and Persian. See languages and themes.

Parents & students

Do parents need to install an app?
No. SchoolTrendz works in any browser on a phone, tablet or computer — there's nothing to install.
Can a teacher see every student, or only their own classes?
Only their own classes. A teacher can only view or enter marks, attendance and homework for the classes they actually teach — enforced by the server, not just hidden on screen. See how permissions work.
Can parents pay school fees online?
Yes, at launch, through a secure hosted checkout — card numbers never touch our servers. Read about payment security.

Security & privacy

Is our school's data safe?
Every school's records are kept apart, roles follow least privilege, sign-in is protected with optional two-step verification, and every change is written to an audit log. See the full security and privacy page.
Can we run SchoolTrendz on our own server?
Yes. Alongside our cloud design, school groups that want their data on their own infrastructure can run SchoolTrendz on their own server. Read more about our infrastructure.

Moving from other software & setup

How do we move our data from our current software?
We move it across school by school and show you a reconciliation report to check before you switch. See how switching works.
What if we currently use spreadsheets or paper registers?
You can start straight in SchoolTrendz and bring your existing lists in with a CSV import for students, teachers, guardians, fee invoices and exam marks. Read about CSV import.
What happens to our old passwords when we switch?
They're upgraded to modern hashing the first time each person signs in — nobody needs to reset anything themselves.

Technical

Does it work without an internet connection?
No — SchoolTrendz is a web app, so it needs an internet connection to work.
Is e-mail and SMS delivery switched on yet?
Not yet. Notices, messages and reminders show up as in-app notifications today; e-mail and SMS delivery switch on at launch, once a provider is connected.
What devices and browsers does it work on?
Any modern browser, on a phone, tablet or computer. On a phone, lists turn into cards instead of tables, so there's no sideways scrolling.
